Call for artists: Postcard Design Contest (Embassy of Japan)

2023 will be the Year of the Rabbit (卯年), so the postcard designs must include a Rabbit, the kanji for Rabbit (卯) found on the Zodiac animal calendar or eto, as well as the year 2023 (or Reiwa 5/令和五年 in the Japanese calendar). This year's contest will be divided into junior (0-11), youth (12-17) and adult (18+) divisions. There will be one grand prize winner and one runner-up from each category. In addition, honorable mentions will be chosen for the Most Creative and the Most Traditional designs. Designs will be judged by JICC and Embassy of Japan staff. The three grand prize winning designs will be sent out to the JICC’s mailing list as the official New Year’s greeting. The three winners will also receive a fukubukuro — a customary Japanese grab-bag of goodies to celebrate the New Year. Runners-up and honorable mentions will be display on the JICC website, Facebook page, and Instagram account alongside the winners.

Art Enables Art Enables is looking to hire a part-time Studio Assistant to provide support to our studio artists. The part-time Studio Assistant position provides group and one-on-one support to Art Enables resident artists while helping maintain a highly professional and productive studio space for artists and guests. The Studio Assistant’s chief responsibility is to support the artist’s creative efforts in the studio while assisting artists with daily tasks. The Studio Assistant will also support other program efforts such as program compliance support. The Studio Assistant is a part-time, fixed-term position. The position is 21 hours a week, ideally, 9 am-4 pm, three days a week (M-F). The position will run through April 30, 2023. An extension of this term is to be determined. Bitter Sweet Invitational Festival 2022 for Photographers and Filmmakers

A festival of story, inviting photographers and filmmakers to submit a narrative of monumentally ordinary proportions. These works should offer fresh and artful interpretations of BitterSweet’s credo: refuse cynicism, defy apathy, celebrate good. In our second year we're welcoming both film (up to 12 minutes in length) and photo essay (including 3 to 5 photographs) entries. On November 11 and 12, the festival will come together in Washington, DC at the Capital Turnaround to celebrate and honor the official selections for the festival. 1 grand prize winner will be selected for each category (film and photo) and awarded $1,000.00.

Festival will not provide tent or table, just a 10x10 space w/ potential for access to electricity. Heurich House Museum’s Mini Markt program provides small-scale manufacturing entrepreneurs with a free in-person sales platform during their public Biergarten, which draws up to 200 people per day. The museum will provide vendors with a 4ft x 8ft space, one (1) 6ft table, a tablecloth, access to bathrooms, access to power, and professionally designed cross-promotional marketing materials. Museum staff will communicate with vendors about their acceptances at least 20 days in advance to and coordinate details on participation.

This is a cash award for a Black ceramicist of any skill level and educational background funded by members of the Kaabo Clay Collective. All Black-identifying ceramicists are invited to apply. Applications will be evaluated on the desire to grow in this discipline, the impact of the opportunity, and demonstrated commitment to the field. You do not have to be a collective member to apply, but if you are selected as an awardee, you will be required to join the collective before receiving your award. Membership is free. The @DCBarProBonoCenter and Covington & Burling LLP are sponsoring a FREE virtual legal advice clinic to assist small businesses and nonprofits that have employees who regularly work in Washington, D.C. in understanding the basics of on-boarding employees. They will cover: ✅Employment application practices, including offer letters and compliance with local Ban-the-Box laws; ✅Notice of Hire forms and how to follow other Wage Theft Prevention Act requirements; Form I-9 compliance; ✅Proper benefits enrollment for new employees; and ✅Ensuring new employees understand and acknowledge employee policies. Your nonprofit or small business will meet with attorney volunteers one-on-one to conduct a basic review of your nonprofit's or small business' on-boarding policies.

The Bridge Fund will provide financial relief to small businesses that earned $5 million or less and experienced at least a 30% reduction in revenue during the Public Health Emergency related to COVID-19. This program will prioritize businesses that have not received federal relief funds (Paycheck Protection Program). The Bridge Fund is a non-competitive grant program that will award eligible small businesses with consideration to core expenses, economic distress, location, length of revenue generating operations, and District resident employment.

Food Waste Innovation Grant

These grants will provide support for restaurants, food manufacturers, shared commercial kitchens, and commercial corridors like Main Streets and Business Improvement Districts, to minimize food waste. Applicants can access three resources through one application: Virtual or in-person food waste assessment: These will be free and available for all eligible applicants, to provide recommendations to each business on how to reduce food waste. Compost Credit: 100 businesses will be selected for $1,000 in credit for food scraps collection for composting. For many small businesses, this will cover 6 months of food scraps collection. Food Waste Innovation Grants: DSLBD intends to award between 6 and 20 Food Waste Innovation Grants for a total of $300,000 for the Fiscal Year 2022.

Honfleur Women In Arts Grant Program

In 2022, this grant will be awarded to an individual or collaborative who propose the most compelling project surrounding the discrimination and misogyny women artists face, or have faced, specific to the music industry. To apply you must be a college student or instructor/educator who is either enrolled in, teach at, or lecture on or is a graduate[s] of a women’s study program. Applicants must be DC-based. Project examples could include blog series, plays, films, lecture series or research papers. Projects must be completed within one year period. Honfleur Artist in Residency 2022 Program

This annual program is a realization of the vision of the late Sharon Hughes Gautier to provide artists with the necessities of time and funding to create their work. This residency comes with both specific project funding and a monthly stipend. This program is open to emerging or professional artists in any artistic discipline, including (but not limited to) visual, performing, spoken word, literary arts, film as well as curation of an exhibition. The artist must live in Ward 7 or 8 pursuing research or in the development stage or production of artistic project/exploration. There is no established format for the proposal. The submittal must be in a word document which includes a detailed description and the time schedule for the project. In excel format, a detailed budget must be provided. Join the DC Food Policy Council’s Entrepreneurship and Food Jobs (EFJ) Working Group for a workshop on the basics of different food licenses and a discussion on the costs, processes, and the pros and cons of different licenses.
